Great Joy

When was the last time you experienced ridiculous, overwhelming, mind-blowing joy!  Perhaps you were brought to tears when you heard the great news, or maybe you started laughing and just could stop.  Your sides cramped and your cheeks hurt from your fit of laughter.  It seems that the older I've become, the less of these moments I experience.

Why?  Simply put, I take myself and life itself too seriously.

It must have been quite the atmosphere the first Christmas as Jesus was born to Mary and Joseph.  It was soon after the Angels appeared to Shepherds with the message, "I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people" (Luke 2:10).

Not to sound "preachy", but perhaps we don't experience this Great Joy much anymore, is we have forgotten what the good news is all about.  We reduced relationships to what we can get.  We have diluted true enjoyment to what we watch on TV. And we've limited Christmas to presents that rarely last 1 year.

Perhaps the pathway to experiencing this GREAT JOY, is to rediscover the Joy that was announced that first Christmas evening.
