Send the Flower TODAY!

Attending a funeral service always has an affect on me. I've been to many different types. For some I've known well, others I never knew until I saw them in the casket. Some lived their lives well, others wasted their borrowed time on self. For those whose eternity was secure in Christ, their "home-going" was joyful. Others, their eternal resting place is in question.

Today's funeral for Rev., Dr., Marguerite Handy was no different. We celebrated her life and her ministry for Jesus Christ her Savior and Lord. But the words of her son mirrored the words my mother has spoken many times... "Don't buy me flower once I'm dead,... buy them for me now, while I'm alive and able to enjoy."

It was as good wake-up call for me to take care of the "business" of LOVING today!!! Not one of us is guaranteed tomorrow. Therefore, tell your kids you love them TODAY... make amends TODAY... hug your wife TODAY... AND most of all... send the flowers today!!!

"In it for Keeps"

Have you ever seen someone do an activity "Half-Heartedly". They're just going through the motion to say that they tried, but the effort is truly lacking. I've seen this scenario play out in many different setting. In Sports I've watched guys run drills, but not giving their best. In school, when children review their notes for a test, not so they can ace the exam, but so they can tell their parent they "studied." Even in church, many sing the songs or bow their head in prayer, but are truly not seeking after God with all their Heart, Mind, Soul & Strength.

I woke up this morning with these words in my head... "LIVE LIKE YOUR IN IT FOR KEEPS." I can't explain why to rose from my bed with these words. For me, most morning are anything but inspirational, but today I put my feet on the ground with a challenge.

If you're not familiar with that phrase, let me use two comparisons that may help. First: it is the difference between renting and buying your house. They owner of the house is much more "invested" in the condition, value and up keep. Second: it is like the difference of baby-sitting and raising your own children. Once again, you much more invested in the outcome... the end product.

It was like the Holy Spirit was telling me, "Jason, I've given you this 1 life, make the most of it. Don't wast a single second." This is in-line with Paul's words in Colossians 2:5, "make the most of every opportunity."

So... let me encourage you with the same words this morning. "LIVE LIKE YOUR IN IT FOR KEEPS." Whatever that means to you, don't wait, start today.
