The Commitment Choice

We are a society that is "high" on expectation, "high" on promise, "high" on responsibility, but "low" on commitment. Why... We want to maintain a level of control. Even my own family jokes with a coined phrase, "I can't commitment my life away." However, there is more truth to that statement than we might think.

In Matthew chapter 5 Jesus teaches how to have a happy (blessed) life. In the 5th verse we read, "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth." Meekness is not Weakness! Meekness is Strength Under Control. Meekness can be seen is a person who is confident in who they are, knows their role, and is at peace with their purpose.

Meekness is the result of a redeemed relationship with God. Our all powerful creator is concerned with what concerns you. He can heal the habits that hurt you. He invites us in Matthew 11:28-29, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."

The pathway to this peace, rest and joy is found by committing our entire lives into the hands of Jesus. Meekness recognizes and accepts that we have limits and need a limitless God. Admit your shortcomings, and commit your life to the Lord, and discover the life you can't make for yourself. There is no meekness without commitment. If Meekness is the way, than Commitment is the key. Make the Choice to Commitment and enjoy the benefits.

The Hope Choice

Our new teaching series on Sunday mornings is proving to be tremendous encouragement and source of healing. If you missed the sermon you can listen on our Pod-Cast. However, I would encourage you to take a further step. Join with a Connecting Group and discover more about Life's Healing Choices.

Healing in life doesn't happen by itself. God has established the principles of healing. I've noticed that things work better when they are plugged in. Monday morning I put some bread in the toaster, made some low-cholesterol egg-substitute, and then went back to the toaster only to find my bread still fresh and soft. Why, I didn't think to check if the toaster was plugged in. Many Christians get frustrated when they don't see the growth or freedom in their lives that they read about in the Bible. Why... They aren't plugged in. There are 2 important connections for every follower of Christ to make.

Two Heal Connections God has established for us to make is:
1-Connect with His Son, Jesus
2-Connect with Jesus Family

During the week, Connecting Groups are meeting together to discuss in more details the teaching we are experiencing on Sundays. This is a DVD based material by Rick Warren (Purpose Driven Life). Connect this week, so the healing can flow! Why wait, receive from the Lord today!

Pass on the Faith

I heard growing up, "There are no grandchildren in the Kingdom of God." What was meant by that? As a kid, it was a confusing statement, but now as an adult it makes more sense. Each person, Each child, Each Generation has to make their own decision to be a disciple (learner/follower) of Christ. One's parents can't do it for you.

As parents, we can't make that decision for our children, yet I truly believe that we can Pass on the Faith. While there are ways to do this (i.e., 1-live the life at home, 2-make the church a family priority, 3-involving them in family devotions, and much more). This weekend will provide a chance to Pass on Faith.

Our Mission's Convention is this Sunday (4/11). In the morning we will hear about part of God's redemption here in the greater Philadelphia area
-Bethany Christian Services
-Hope4Philly
-Rick & Patti Roberts (Philadelphia Albanians)

In the evening at our Banquet @ 5:30
-Video about Church planting in Northern India w/ David Cawston
-Missionaries, Kent & Jeanne Kelley - Crossroads International

Why is this important for passing on the faith. It teaches our children in a practical way, that life is not about us. Life is not about our education, our careers, our possessions, our goals, or our houses. Life is about Glorifying God, and fulfilling His purpose. Our children will be inspired by Patti Roberts in the morning, and have their own convention in the evening. While there are no Grandchildren in the Kingdom of God, we are called to Pass on the Faith that our children can own.
