The Doghouse

As many are still looking for the perfect gift, I thought this might give some direction.

I hope you have a Merry Christmas and all the brothers keep out of the Dog House.

Holiday Treasurers

I have been raised in a church that believed in miracles, and have actually seen God's power show up in miraculous and sometimes bizarre ways. I have lived long enough to watch and remember both the Phillies and the Sixers win championships. I have watched Losers, Succeed and seen Winners, Fail. Through these, and many more life experiences, it has brought my life to a place where... I AM HARD TO IMPRESS.

Don't take me wrong, I still get surprised and blind-sided sometimes, but it truly takes a lot to raise my eye-brows in a WOW moment. However, I am not so disillusioned that I don't believe in WOW moments anymore. In fact, as my wife and I plan a couple of months in advance, we are looking for at least 1 present for our kids with that WOW factor. It's the perfect gift that makes their eyes light up as they take a step backward and then lunging forward while ranting... THAT'S AWESOME 10-20 times.

However, for me this Christmas season God is teaching me to look for the Hidden Treasures that I am seemingly in the rotten habit of missing. This is probably the busiest time of the year for a pastor and some church leaders, but you don't learn to catch these treasures of life by slowing down or doing nothing. The WOW moments come when you're looking in the right place and in the arenas that are really important. Let me describe.

This morning (Saturday) I had one such moment. Me and my family were all awake sitting on the couch prior to breakfast when 1 by 1 each of my kids crawled up onto my lap or tucked underneath my arms to get a piece of Dad. WOW, what a blessing.

Just the other day I dropped off our house payment and actually started complaining to myself that it had almost taken all we had in our checking to pay it. THEN, I was reminded that we had it to pay. WOW, what a blessing. We all have friends and family who have lost their jobs or perhaps, losing their house. Perhaps this Christmas season that's you. It sounds so cliché, but the true treasures in life can not be purchases with $.

So, let me challenge you this Christmas season, don't look for the wrapped present under your tree to provide you with your Holiday Treasure... Look for the moments in every day life to provide you with the WOW factor. And who knows, you just might get that gift this year where you frantically rejoice with the phrase, "THAT'S AWESOME!!!"
